We recently took part in a Scottish Design Industry roundtable at Trongate103. The event organised by The Drum aimed to invite a cross section of established agencies in Scotland as well as a few newer studios such as ourselves with the aim of sitting round a table and discussing some of the industries current challenges. It proved to be a very informative and interesting afternoon with the likes of Tangent, O-Street, Suisse, Jam Hot, Whitespace and Threebrand all in attendance. The discussions were filmed and transcribed for a design supplement which was sent out with The Drum magazine.

––– 09.07.10 - I'm Paul Harper' s business cards.
We have been working with Real Radio Scotland presenter Paul Harper on his new identity & branding. We have been working closely with Paul to create a flexible and playful typographic identity system which references the informal way he presents his 10am - 2pm daytime show. We are working on a variety of print and online supporting materials and have just taken delivery of his new 700gsm foiled duplex business cards. More news soon.

We are delighted to announce we have been working on an exciting identity system for Real Radio Scotland presenter Paul Harper. Paul approached us looking for a new identity and branding which would speak to people in a informal way like he does on his 10am - 1pm daily show on Real. We developed a playful typographic identity system which literally introduces Paul. We have developed a variety of executions tailored for various situations and are also working on a new website at www.impaulharper.com. More on this new project soon.

We designed these grid based home screen backgrounds for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad (Still to come) to coincide with the IOS4 software upgrade which allows you to select and image as a home screen background. These grid inspired layouts act as an organised wireframe grid structure to keep your applications in neat and tidy order on your iPhone or iPad. ––– 04.06.10 - 60+ Years Submission.
We were invited to submit a design for 60+ Years Project setup by designer Zara Arshad. Here are some sneek peeks of our submission, literally based on the idea of freedom of speech we laid out a grid of open black on white speech marks on one side of a picket and a white on black closed marks on the reverse. There are 26 speech mark styles each taken from a font corresponding to a letter of the alphabet. You can find out more about the project and the contributors here.




––– 01.06.10 - DAHRA Memories Project.
We were delighted to be selected to contribute an illustration to the upcoming project ‘Memories’ by Designers Against Human Rights Abuse (DAHRA). Cancer is such a pervasive killer these days that few of us go through life untouched by the disease. DAHRA decided to do something about it by launching the Memories project and the outcome will be a beautiful art book and exhibition. Proceeds from the sales of Memories will go to the charity Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. Find out more about the project here.

Simpson's is a well established as one of Aberdeen's top hotels and finest restaurants. They recently approached us to design a new sales brochure pack which reflected the quality and style of the hotel as well as the variety of services and accommodation options they offer. We were delighted to be asked to guest design a T-shirt for Danish proprietor of designer loveliness Superfancy. Here is our finalised design which is now available to pre-order in a variety of colours and sizes here. We have recently completed the branding for new media company JOQ specialising in web, video and music production. The final touches to the work are just being put together as we speak and the new website we have designed will launching in the next few weeks. More on this project soon.




––– 28.04.10 - Streets of Tuscany.
Here is the second set of images taken whilst on a recent trip to Pisa, Florence and Lucca. This set consist mostly of the beautiful old Italian buildings, doorways and in particular lots of lovely bikes leaning against rustic italian walls like the one below. We have just uploaded some shots taken whilst on a recent trip to Tuscany to the studio Flickr. This first set was taken at Pisa Marina in March, it wasn't typical beach weather but the cold day did provide some beautifully still and desaturated shots of a beach during the winter months. We have recently completed the first stage of a rebranding exercise for startup architecture partnership Fraher, based in London. We just received some very nice foiled business cards back using a rather dashing fuschia metallic and gloss white foil combination on dark grey/digital white GF Smith colourplan. We have received some samples of the Mac Interactive Architecture book which was designed whilst at There in Sydney. The book is a commerative limted edition coffee table style book with a limited edition laser etched linoleum cover, matt and UV varnishing throughout and a offset spine. We have just received back the lovely new Render business cards from our foilers. The intricate identity and information was created as a metal die and white foil stamped into the 540gsm duplex colourplan stock. See more of the project here.




––– 10.01.10 - Show Us Your Type - New York.
We have just had this typographic print featured as part of the Show Us Your Type magazine 'New York' project. The print features our own typeface Pixel8 and echo's the grid design nature of the city of New York as well as the colour yellow referencing one of the most recognisable symbols of the city - the NYC yellow cab.




––– 15.12.09 - Candy Cranks Bike.
The first Candy Cranks frame has rolled off the production line and been built up including chub hub, aerospoke wheel, b43 rear and custom paint job. The identity we designed has been applied as a head badge and as a graphic on the frame. It looks fantastic, see more image of the bike here. The frame was designed and built by Primate Frames in Sydney and they are available to buy here.

We are delighted to announce that as of December, Effektive will be working on a part-time basis with new Digital agency Bourne. With offices in Glasgow, London and New York Bourne is one of the UK's leading digital agencies and have a client list which reflects that. We have just recently completed a roll out of stationery and print materials for STV Creative the creative television advertising arm of Scottish Television channel STV. Using their existing identity Effektive was approached to create a suite of stationery materials as well as DVD cases and these spot varnished business cards for all directors, producers and editors at the agencies North (Aberdeen) and Central (Glasgow) offices. We are currently working on a full redesign of all the Effektive stationery and print collateral and just received these rather nice wooden handled rubber stamps through in the mail from supplier Blade Rubber in London. As well as these we are splashing out on some lovely new foiled 540gsm duplex colourplan business cards which are just about to go of to the printers. See more images of the stamps here. ––– 13.10.09 - Create Democracy Exhibition.
Aiming to create the ultimate democratic exhibition Create Democracy invited designers and illustrators to submit their visual interpretation of the theme of Democracy and those with the most votes would be featured in the Create Democracy exhibition and book as part of Design Event 09 in Newcastle. All qualifying entries were showcased on the website and you could then in true democratic fashion vote for your favourites. We entered two submissions and we are happy to announce that they will be featured as part of the exhibition opening on Wed 14th October 6-9pm as well as in the book. ––– 11.10.09 - Stereohype B.I.O Series 8.
We were delighted to be invited by our friends at Stereohype to submit a set of badges for their By Invitation Only (B.I.O) Series 8. The set above will be produced by Stereohype and is available to purchase via the Stereohype Boutique online store here. We created a set of signage inspired badges based on the idea that by applying these usually location driven messages to mobile canvases such as badges enables you to take them out of their typical setting and apply them to anything anywhere. Thanks again guys and hope they go down well.

––– 07.09.09 - Limited Edition - 100 Hand numbered Effektive Mailers.
Over the past 12 months we have had a lot of requests for the Effektive mailers which were produced for our move to Sydney last summer. The mailers are 2 colour litho printed A2 sheets (A2 pullout poster folded to A5 booklet) on 140gsm Cyclus Offset. There was 100 numbered limited editions of these available but theyt have now sold out. However there are still a few remaining which can be bought at a cost of £6 (UK and Europe) and £7.50 (Worldwide) to cover postage and materials. We seem to be fascinated with designing our own type at the moment and Circul8 is the latest in a new set of 8 display fonts that we are currently putting together. This is another modular grid based face made up using circles. More on the upcoming set soon.
